We are "upgrading" from Act! For Financial Professionals 2007. We figured it was time to do so, as many revisions and upgrades had apparently been done since we first purchased it. The financial professional product is no longer available - and so now we have a program, that while a little faster, has less features that we need than the original.
Time may tell that the added benefits that we haven't taken advantage of yet might outweigh this - but for now we're making due with what feels like an unfinished product. Hero Technical Solutions (the people who installed ACT! for us) have been very professional and have been quite helpful in trying to get Act! to behave similar to the way we're used to - but it really shouldn't need to be this complicated.

Cons: poor reporting, poor calendar synch with outlook
I would like to see better reporting. In that I mean that I would like to be able export reports to a csv or excel format.
Also, the integration with Outlook is not very good. When you make an appt. in ACT! and synch it with Outlook, you only get the subject, you don't get the contact info that you have in ACT! calendar. Makes the feature a bit useless. It does't help me to see I have a meeting about widgets at 10am Monday but I have no idea who it's with.

Im having a very difficult time
I have ACT on my laptop and desktop - I also purchased CONNECT so that I could keep everything updated between the two machines. I'm having so many problems though...

Cons: Difficult to Use, Low Quality, poor syncing, no mail merge on group listing
Seems to be a very good product. I used it with a add in program to get started. On windows 7 and Outlook 2010.
Numerious calls to tech support all handled well. However 1 month is way to short for the number of problems I am having. They should give you 3 months at least.
Very disappointed in the contact and calender syncing. My phone is an android and can be synced through Google but it can not sync with Google and Outlook at the same time.One program I have allows syncing individual contacts to other programs one at a time.
Does not allow mail merge on group listings

A Good Data Organization Tool

It's definitely worth the investment but has room for improvements as far the help videos go. More self help & explanations and some kind of direction book is also definitely needed.

Pros: Helps Me Be Productive, good product but could be better
Cons: somewhat difficult to use at times
The program still has some bugs and could be better. For example: * In the List View it would be nice to be able to search for a person's name in the "Look For" field, not just companies! * There are integration problems and issues with Windows7 that still need to be resolved. * There are integration problems with SwiftPage and the links from the icon in the account screen. * Before releasing a new version, you need to thoroughly test all the software in "Beta" tests because that's where you will find the bugs. I find bugs in your software sometimes a year later when I'm doing something that I have not done for a long time. Maybe not everyone uses the program like I dof??

With all sincerity, this is not an upgrade. The amount of time it takes to update, change and clear activities is Extremely slow. ACT is VERY LETHARGIC. The amount of time we waste simply waiting on ACT to respond to these simple requests is not acceptable with today's technology. Sad but true.

pop up alarm box

Cons: generally error free except for the alarm box issu
Overall the product is great. I have one problem that drives me CRAZY . I pull up the alarm box to call on my call list and minimize. The box often goes away and you can't bring it back up...kills a lot of time when I am trying to make a lot of calls to be productive. It will eventually comes back up...sometimes it comes right back up after I have reschedueled a call but not always or even usually. Sometimes I have to close ACT and reopen for the alarm box (call list) to pop back up. Any suggestions?

I have not been able to add pictures (jpegs, bitmaps, etc) to my email broadcasts since the outset. I created a work order March 11, 2011 and have still not had the problem rectified, nor has the higher level "team" ever been back in touch with me.

Slow performance, step backwards...
Upgraded from older version of ACT!. Although there are some new features, a number of basic functions in the old version are no longer there, and I find that ACT! 2011 has a number of bugs and design deficiencies. Without a support contract, it appears there is no mechanism to report and resolve program errors.

Good client and project management tool

I have been using ACT for about 6 months, and have worked with a variety of similar products in the past. ACT is a great tool to help me manage not just my clients, but also various resources and projects. Very intuitive program, but it does take a bit of effort to modify the standards to create specialized features. Still, with a bit of patience and a little time, this program does offer every feature I could ask of it. It is a flexible management tool that "plays well with others"- it interacts beautifully with Microsoft's office suite.

I use several products with similar features. Act has been excellent in the past, but seems to get more difficult to use.
One aspect that would greatly improve the product is a simple tool to merge two contacts. One product that I use simply allows you to highlight (or select), right click, and select Merge. The same merge screens and protocols that you have now would work fine. To easily select two targets without going through the scanning process would make the product much easier to use.

ACT trying to move up from Contact Manager to CRM

ACT has been around a long time, has survived, and has elevated itself pretty well. Is it a CRM? Not yet, but, it's getting closer with every release.
Issues: 1) You can create a report that includes your notes based on a Contact or Company. But, you can't create a report that includes your notes based on an Opportunity. This is a big flaw and needs to be fixed.
2) You can create many databases, and you can import/export a contact (or a group of contacts) from one database to another. but, you lose all the Notes and History! This is another big flaw and needs to be fixed.
Otherwise, good value for your dollar.

Several of the features are incredibly handy, such as the mapping of hte address and the activities bar along with the outlook integration.
I would like to see the search input a little easier to work with, such as not sitting on contact only and having to change it each time when searching. I don't always search by name only, cities and types as well.

64 bit

Product is great however not in 64 bit which conflicts with office 2010 64 so you have to install the 32 bit version I think an upgrade to 64 bit act is long overdue
